Delapaz Church

1 comment:
Today is the last date of September, how time flies by so quickly! It has been a hectic month and I'm glad that I was able to host the 366 Blog Photo Challenge for a month. I'm sharing this beautiful church that my kids and I visited often during our trip in Philippines. It's at De Lapaz Parish (Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage church). It's meaningful because it is where my husband and I got married 6 years ago. And here I am, I came back standing with my two kids before the altar. They had a fiesta going on that's why people are lining up. It's a tradition that you will never see in America. Smiles. I miss my friends and the good ole memories in this church as I was actively involved in Youth activities before like joining the Our Lady of Lourdes Council. I'm so happy to see my friends again. It such a happy feeling to visit back.

Toolbox Organizer Idea

4 comments:
Waterloo Industries has been one of the U.S.'s top manufacturers of tool storage solutions for over 90 years. Their early history was composed of equal parts serendipity and quality.

Imagine making a product that nobody wanted, then discovering that the product's container was a huge hit. When the Waterloo Valve Spring Compressor Company was formed in 1922, their only product was a compressor for autos. The device worked, but it was too big and cumbersome. Other companies made smaller, lighter units and had big advertising budgets to promote them.

Visiting Grandpa's Side Of Family

1 comment:
My kids got a chance to see who their Great grandparents were on the side of their Grandpa G's family. They are living in Jimalalud, Negros Oriental. My Grandma is a Barangay Captain in Mongpong. It is an isolated town but thriving. I remember they got affected on the strong earthquake almost a year during our visit there in January 2013. My kids also got to meet one of their Great Aunt and the cousins that I have there. They had a town fiesta in honor of Sto.Nino at that time. My Grandmother prepared a huge feast. Lots of people came to their house in the city which by the way got damaged after the earthquake also a year ago. I remember the weather alternates from very hot to very heavy rain. The kids and I got sick so we stayed for just 2 nights there and went back to Bohol. It was a unique experience for my kids to see a parade where people dance in costumes and a huge body of the sea there. In the picture below, is me carrying Little V and my father's side of the family including my Grandma, Grandpa, 2 cousins and my parents, Papa and Mama.

Visiting Grandma's Side Of Family

1 comment:
The first time we arrive in Philippines, my kids got to meet the side of their Grandma's family. I am so happy to see them again after 5 years! My Aunts cooked food for us and we all ate lunch together. My kids got to play with my little cousins. It's funny how life turned out this way for the kids. My little cousins got to be Uncles so very young. Smiles. It's a very special moment. A little bit awkward but I'm sure God's miracle is working on in here. What a blessing!

The picture below is me in stripes long sleeve shirt holding little V, my 2 Uncles, my two Aunts, my 5 cousins and my Mama.

Fun Coloring Activity For K

1 comment:
This is one of Little G's art progress in his Mathematics K subject in homeschooling this week. The routine for his Math subject is to answer a page from his Math K textbook and color 2 pages in his Math Coloring book five days a week. I just started him to do pages of the Math coloring book this week as the previous weeks that we did homeschooling, he's so hesitant to do coloring stuff. I opened to him an idea that if he's going to do coloring, I am going to hang his artwork on the walls of their room, hallways and in the living room. He said he likes it. There are times he gets distracted from doing color artwork. But it is a progress to me that he remembered the idea I gave to him the other days that he can color hair brown or black, the shirt can be colorful and the skirt and pants can be brown black and so on. I am just happy now that I don't have to guide his hand anymore. I keep telling him that he's doing a great job in coloring now. That he doesn't go beyond the lines, that we can identify the hair, shirt, and so on in the picture. Anyhow, the picture is about the number 4, he counted four boys in the picture and he said they are reading the Bible together.

Skin Care Advice

No comments:
I remember reading about a skin care advice at Mommy Jessica's blog and I'm glad that Mommy Rcel found my comment. She offered in sending me the skin care cream that she used in treating itchiness in the skin.

I am happy to receive this in the mail yesterday and she also included the homemade dried apples that she herself made. Thanks so much mommy Rcel! My kids and I enjoyed eating your dried apples. Smiles. The cream really worked for me at the moment. Little G also seem to like it when I apply the cream to his upper arm. The itchiness seemed to fade away and I hope it will continue. I always trust your advice, Thank You! Check out Mommy Rcel on her blog at Progressive Parenting!

School Supply Container DIY

1 comment:
I made this simple school supply container a few days ago. I just thought this is a good idea to keep my son's school supply in one place rather than in their individual boxes or containers. What I did is simply recycling the cardboard rolls inside the rolls of paper towel. It may be too tall but you can cut it shorter to fit inside the big box. As for the design outside the big box, you can buy those colorful duck tape in the store or you can draw or paste in it your child's art work and put clear tape around it so it won't get dirty. This container is best for storing markers, crayons, colored pencils, pencils, pen, scissors, stick glue and others that you can put inside the roll. You can stuff something at the bottom of the roll like cotton or crumpled paper to make the tip of your small crayons stick out at the top. Enjoy!

Reading Fun At The Library

1 comment:
One of the fun things we do after homeschooling is to walk around our neighborhood. It's a good exercise not just for myself but for my kids. Little G felt tired by the time we arrived in the library. That's why he didn't smile when I took photos. But he sure enjoyed his time during our walks. I'm glad he's walking by my side every time we do this rather than sitting in the double stroller. We got to read the books that they picked. They also got to borrow the books that they want to read. The librarian in the kids section is very accommodating. She is happy that the kids are behave and that she can see that they love books. I hope their love towards books will continue grow.

Bonding Time With Kids

3 comments:
One of the fun things that we did as a family this Summer was exploring the woods and see a scenic view at Allegheny Recreational Park. Our place is near to the Allegheny Forest. Some people think it's scary to go in a forest as you might meet a bear or something but lucky for us we didn't meet any. Smiles. It was a breathtaking trip as the forest air smells so fresh and it was warm and sunny. My husband was with us too so I felt we're ok. Somehow I wish we will visit back there at the peak of Autumn as I'm sure it will be a beautiful scenery where trees will change colors. I can't wait! We enjoyed walking and listening the calls of the birds in the forest.

How about you, do you like forest trips too?

Trip To Sagbayan Peak

No comments:
One of our site seeing trips in Bohol was at Sagbayan Peak. I remember I wanted to go there so bad because I want to take a picture of the Tarsier before our trip back home to US. It wasn't as successful as I hoped as it was raining hard that week. We didn't see a lot of the Chocolate hills while we're there but we savored the time we spent with my side of the family. The kids enjoyed the indoor play ground there. The entry per person was P60 and kids were free. It's really a nice park where you can see huge dinosaur statues, Disney characters and other animal statues. They have a restaurant inside and a butterfly dome. They have other nice landscaping inside where you can enjoy if it's a sunny day. There is a hotel under construction outside of it and it looked like there's a huge water park in that new area soon. Wish we could go back there someday.

Tidioute Scenery

1 comment:
This is one of the beautiful scenery that we visited near our place lately. It's is in Tidioute, PA and it's at Allegheny Recreational Park. I thought the park is a little bit spooky but my husband was with us. It's an open to the public place where the path enters to the forest and at the end of it, you will see this view where you are on the tip of a plateau. The first picture is a view of what the city of Tidioute looked like. And the second picture is a view of the Allegheny river where it bends and breaks into two because there's a small island in between. I wish we could visit back there in the Fall season as all of the trees will change colors.

Excited For Ear Piercing

No comments:
My younger sister requested to me that she wants her ears pierced. I thought she already had one when she was in high school but she said the hole got sealed as she has no earrings to wear. Like me, she also have a sensitive ear. Fake earrings will cause itch and blisters. And so, during one of our trip to the Mall, I suggested that we'll stop by at Unisilver, look for earrings and that she'll get her ears pierced. She is so excited! I took pictures of her during the piercing process.

Paid P300 pesos for the piercing including the star sterling silver earrings for her.

Fine Dining Lunch

1 comment:
My brother suggested that I should try Gerarda's Restaurant when taking my friends and relatives to dine out. I am happy of his suggestion as the place is really nice - fine dining, the food is great and very affordable. What I mean about affordable is that for taking big groups to dine out, this is the place where you can feed everyone with lots of food and the price is not bad for the pocket. This is a family owned restaurant in Bohol, Philippines so if ever you get to visit Bohol, try Gerarda's. Smiles.

Breakfast With Mommy's Family

1 comment:
Every time I feel depressed, I go to my computer and open the pictures and videos I have with my family in Philippines. I missed them every time I have sad and happy moments. Anyhow, this picture was one of the breakfast moment that my kids experienced with my side of the family. My Mama cooked some hotdogs, rice, fried fish and french fries. They are so happy to have their Grandsons eating with them in the table. My siblings were happy that our family of 5 + 2 are all present in the table just like eating together in the past. Of course we wish that my husband were with us and he's happy seeing these precious pictures during our Philippine trip.

Lowercase b Handwriting For K

3 comments:
I got this new dry erase writing tablets for Little G. I got it at Walmart and what's nice about it is that it comes in a pack of 40 tablets in it. It is very useful for his Handwriting K subject because he's learning how to write letters using lines. I also bought dry erase markers for it. One tablet lasts longer as it really cleans nice and it's thin and small to bring it with him wherever he goes and do some practice writing. At first, he is having difficulty controlling his markers. It's because the surface is slippery or glossy. I thought we'll just set it aside but he said he still wants to try writing in it. I prepared two dots on the headline and baseline and his job is to say the strokes while writing. There are times he does mistakes and I encouraged him not to keep erasing. He got better at writing lowercase b's as he moved on.

Power Plant On The Road

1 comment:
We passed through a tunnel on this power plant while on the road at State Route 7. That was the time where my husband and I went to a Bible conference in Ohio a couple of months ago. My husband likes to take this route when going to a trip there as he will see interesting buildings like power plants. It is said that the company running this power plant is one of the World's successful firms and one of it's chimneys is one of the World's tallest chimney. As you pass by either way, they have a big sign that out of 2 million man hours, there were no lost-time accident. Sounds like a good sign, huh? I also thought it's interesting to pass through a power plant's tunnel on a State road too. It's just weird why they designed it that way.

Avocado Harvest

2 comments:
Last month was Avocado season in our place here in Bohol. This is the picture below of the avocados that we harvest from our Avocado tree. My father planted the trees in our backyard many years ago. I remember it was just a tiny twig. Now it is very tall and there are years it just bear a few and there years that it has lots of avocado fruit in it. Everyone in our family loves avocado. I'm sure my sister in the US is drooling in this picture as she loves to eat the avocado from our tree. We prepare it in just a simple avocado salad. Just cut them in chunks and mix some sugar and powdered milk. It is best served when chilled. I also saw in the internet that people likes to make smoothies out from avocado. That's really good because avocado has high fiber content and is very nutritious for our body.

Thanks to my brother, Johnjohn, for this post.

Shoe Collection

2 comments:
When I was a kid, I dream of having many shoes one day. At the moment, I'm still a beginner in this Shoe Collection journey. They are my favorite ones to wear and I like to take good care of them. I have 3 new pairs now. The Fila or the white one is given to me from my older sister. The Converse or gray one is given to me as a gift from my best buddy in college named Mark. And the Adidas or blue one is the one I bought out from the stipend that I received in my nurse training in the hospital. All of these shoes are original and are imported from USA. I am so happy to have new shoes! I treat them as blessings from God. I thank Him for realizing this dream even it's just material need. The blue and gray shoes are the ones I used in my basketball time. The white one is the one I used during my hospital duty. I am looking forward to have more good shoes in the future.

Thanks to my brother, Johnjohn, for this post.

Binignit Dish

2 comments:
A friend stopped by at out house yesterday by surprise. She's the one whom we just visited a few weeks ago as she had a housewarming party at her new house. I bought some stuff from her catalog to help her child's public school fundraising project. Anyhow, she gave me a dish that she made yesterday which is this binignit. I haven't tried making this one yet but I really like her dish because it taste like the way I taste them in Philippines. She put lots of Sago and the banana really strikes me most as it taste like the banana in Philippines. I have to ask her what kind of banana she put in it. I noticed some squash, Gabi and some vegetables. I can taste coconut milk in it. It's sort of a pudding, only that it has special ingredients like vegetables and coconut milk to mix in it. Yummy, indeed!

Fun With Play Doughs

2 comments:
We have used this play dough set quite often lately. I only have pictures of the ones we made the other day. If you guys like this set, you might want to get it in Walmart for less than $4 or $5. There are also DIY's online that you can use to make your own play doughs. I haven't tried them yet as I got tempted to buy 3 sets that were on sale plus it saves more time. Anyhow, we did lots of stick men. Little G attempted to make two and some tiny things that he calls bagels. You can see in the picture below. You can see mine and my hubby's stick men. His stick man looks like a little child. So cute! He also molded this cute brown bear. Little V grabbed it and said "Awww".

Benefits For Military Spouses

4 comments:
I have high respect to individuals serving in the military. They have done so great a job especially in protecting the country USA in the past to present. There's just too many countries around the world who wants to conquer US for sure as it has lots of resources. Without them, we also can't have freedom that we live right now.

Shrimp Soup

3 comments:
I was preparing this shrimp soup the other day. I used bean noodles or cellophane noodles, sliced some regular onions, chives as I am out of scallions, carrots, cabbage and medium sized shrimps. I added some soy sauce for seasoning. I also boiled eggs to pair in eating with it. I just missed the soup that I used to eat in Philippines. It's been rainy and cold in our place lately. I also felt back pains and sore muscles. I sweat after eating this soup. My tummy feels a lot of better. The kids didn't like it but my husband ate a lot of it.

P.S. Cellophane noodles are not from cellophane or plastic. They are called that way because once cooked they look very transparent.

Learning How To Count And Tally

1 comment:
One of the new techniques that Little G learned in his Mathematics K this week is counting and tallying. He had a hard time to do it at first but on the second day that we reviewed it, he learned fast. I let him do some sensory play and count using Pinto beans and mold play doughs to tiny bagels. I put them inside squares that I draw in a sheet and let him count and tally Pinto beans and Bagels in it. He really enjoyed it and to my surprise, he's using his fingers to count them by memory before writing the tally. Daddy came from work and found us doing some fun activity in the dining room. He joined and played with Little G. He called me from the kitchen and showed me that Little G is making his own grid, putting the beans and bagels into the squares and started tallying a new batch.

Last week, I received another mail and it was from a friend in Korea. I remember I asked her to send me a postcard of the St. Basil's Cathedral. I am surprised that she sent me more Mint postcards. She also included a nice wooden cell phone key chain. Thanks so much Rhyeanne! I showed it to my husband and kids and they really liked it! I am so happy! These set of postcards are great addition to my postcard collection. You can meet her at her travel blog in this blog button below.

Fourth Month Of Swimming Lessons

2 comments:
Our Little G just had his fourth month of swimming lessons last month. The first two months was offered at the Y and it was for $28 for 8 days each month. I took advantage of the swimming lessons that Blair Learn To Swim program offered in our area in the Summer. I got to enroll him for another 2 months which was for $15 per 8 days. The swimming program is really nice for kids to interact and socialize. They got a swimming teacher and they get to meet other kids their age. Little G sure had lots of fun and he shows initiative to go to swim like preparing his own backpack by stuffing in his favorite towel and asks me to prepare his swimming trunks. This month, they just finished cleaning the pool so I'm looking out for another swimming classes that they offered.

They get to learn how to swim using a bubble first, then backstroke with a bubble. They also get to use the noodle and kickboard. It was fun seeing Little G progress in swimming on his own. I remember taking him to the pool before and he would not let go of me because he's afraid that there's monsters in the water. After 4 months of swimming classes, he is not afraid to go to the water. He even make big splashes! I'm happy to see him having fun in swimming.

Yummy Ampalaya

No comments:
I am so happy that these yummy goodies came in the mail very fast. I received it last week and I noticed that the 4th ampalaya got squished so I have to cook the rest as soon as possible. I want to thank Mommy Jhey for sharing these garden harvest of her friend to me. You can read her post here. I cooked them with eggs, onions and a clove of garlic. I also added some pepper for seasoning. I felt nostalgic. It brought back memories when I used to eat this in elementary, high school and college. Either my mom cook it or I just buy it at a carenderia for my lunch box. The English name of it is Bitter Gourd or Bitter Melon. It has lots of nutritious content but too much intake will also result to hypoglycemia. I rarely find this veggy in our local grocery store or Asian store. I love eating this particular ampalaya as it's bitter taste is not too strong.

Kids Study Tables

3 comments:
I'm glad that my husband found this study table at a garage sale a few months ago. He paid $25 for both table and chair. It's for a kid's room and it's made of metal. There are few imperfections in it like minor scratches of paint on the sides and legs but it can be repaired with new paint. The second kids table is an indoor and outdoor type. It's a kids picnic table made of plastic, collapsible for easy carry & storage, and I bought it at Ebay for $80. Quite a difference in our shopping prices huh? I set them both up in our Master's room for now because our extra room is being occupied by my husband's brother. He's still on the process of taking out his stuff to their house after it got fixed from their housefire. I can't wait to turn that room as our main Homeschool room and move this kids furniture there.

Cute Bracelet Charms

1 comment:
One of the items I bought online just arrived a few days ago. I'm surprised that the items came from Singapore. No wonder the shipping took long time to arrive. I didn't mind as long as the items will really arrive in my mailbox. They are made of sterling silver and the charms are bigger than I thought. I bought them for $10 each which is cheap for an SS. The first bracelet has gardening theme in it and the second one is composed of 13 charms. I enjoyed wearing this new bracelets.

Blue Butterfly

4 comments:
Every homeschool session that I have with Little G, his younger brother tries his best to seek attention. There are times that I feel frustrated. It's hard homeschooling at this stage where one just started and the other one is a tot. They say I can homeschool them both at the same time but it's a challenge because both have different attention span. Little V has the shortest. What I usually do is that I gather them together at the beginning of the class where we do our music together like singing and religious exercise. When it's time to  teach core subjects to Little G, there are times that Little V listened but he wanders away and goes to his bedroom and play with his toys. There are times that he's just wind up and so I separate them, where Little G will be in his study table and Little V will be on the kid's picnic table that I placed in the room. There are times that he picks up a book for me to read, so I time out Little G for a few minutes from his lesson and I will read to them the books that Little V picked and when also Little G requests another book for me to read. I give them more time on the things they like to do like reading books, playing with play doughs, markers on the white board and some coloring. They also play with their toys but they are more attracted to the new things I got for them lately which is the markers and play doughs. The thing about these guys is that they don't like coloring with crayon very much which worries me. But they do like more reading time with me, play with play doughs and writing in the white board with colorful washable markers. It's sucking more of my time but it's a good time because I spent it with my kids.

Anyhow, here's one of the cute things that Little V did. I immediately called Little G for a minute and I told him that I see something blue in Little V's work. He said it's a butterfly! I think so too! Little V giggled.

Backward Circle Handwriting For K

4 comments:
Little G is learning how to write backward circles in his Handwriting subject in our Kindergarten homeschooling this week. He still needs more practice as he tends to write it in reverse. I'm proud of him tracing the backward circles in this textbook page that I photocopied for him. After answering every handwriting textbook activity, I always encourage him to write the strokes on the white board. You can see his own backstroke circles on the second picture.

I decided to pile all the photocopied textbook activities that Little G answered in a bookbinder so we can save money by preserving the original textbooks. I hope this idea works so his other sibling will get to use them when he gets into Kindergarten age. This week marks our 3rd week of Kindergarten Homeschooling.

The Apple Art

4 comments:
I was cleaning my kids room yesterday and I found this art inside G's closet. I think I put it there after G took a VBS classes a few weeks ago. I showed it to him and he told to me how he did the art. After he told me how, I asked him if they were learning about the Holy Trinity. He said he sort of remembered. I asked him if he would like me to teach him about the Holy Trinity that is in his Art. He listened.

I just thought this is a cool simple art for kids in his VBS. Ain't this neat?

Emergency Hospital Helicopter

3 comments:
This hospital helicopter flew above my Mom in law's house the other day. I immediately grab the camera in my purse and took several pictures of it. I like this particular picture as you can see what the under side of a helicopter looks like. I still couldn't read what the words say but I'm pretty sure it's an Emergency hospital helicopter. My kids are fascinated of helicopters. They are so happy that I took lots of picture of it.

Did you know that an average salary of an Emergency pilot ranges from $40k to $100k annually? The minimum pay is based on a small type of helicopter that a pilot will use. I also read that hospitals typically require 2,000 hours of flight experience for a pilot to qualify as their Emergency helicopter pilot. Ain't this something a career to consider if you're into Aviation?

Second Week Of Kindergarten Homeschool

3 comments:
Last week was our second week of Kindergarten homeschooling. My 4 year old is still a beginner to writing, coloring and reading. He can't do it without my supervision. According to my lesson plan, it's normal for kids entering Kindergarten to begin doing writing, coloring, reading and even recognizing shapes and counting numbers. I often forget that because I compare my son to other kids his age (which I should not because every child has his own pace). He already can count 1 to 20 and count backwards from 10 to 1. According to the standard learning of a Kindergarten between 4-5 years old, they should count 1 to 10 and backwards, and can read number from 1 to 20. There were times before homeschooling that we even count 1 to 100 by memory and read it together. My observation to my 4 year old at the moment is that he doesn't like to do coloring very much on his own. And so, with supervision, he will do coloring but only with my help. What he really likes to do is writing letters t and b as this is the letters that we learn in the first 2 weeks. He is still catching up with Phonics like recognizing the pictures and words that has beginning and ending sounds of t and b, and recognizing words that rhyme in a poem or story. I pray that he can accomplish some of the phonics lessons after one month.

The right side of the white board is the work of my 2 year old. The left side where Little G is sitting is the work of my 4 year old. I draw b's in different colors and let him pick which color corresponds to the color of the b's and he'll use it to shade the inside of the b's. He did most of the shading work on his own.

Beef Tacos For Dinner

3 comments:
I made this beef tacos a few days ago. I remember I bought this seasoning mix for a dollar at our Bilo store for $1. I always remember to drain the fat when the ground beef gets cook and I spread the seasoning on top. I also don't like to eat tacos dry so I added a little bit of water in it for moist. I prepared this plate for my 2 kids. Another thing about this seasoning mix is that my kids can tolerate its spice. I put lots of lettuce on top so that they can eat some veggie even for just a few. They don't like to eat lettuce very much but if it's mix to the taco, they will eat some.

Happy September Yal | 366 Blog Photo Challenge

8 comments:
I can't believe September is finally here. Life has been very full in my cup last month. And yet, here I am, still wide awake to squeeze time for blogging. Well, I sometimes write in this blog but I am encouraging my co-writers, my Mama, Bro and Sis to write with me here. This is our little corner in the world wide web. Smile. I am also hosting 366 Blog Photo Challenge this month so I hope you guys will stay tune with us. Wink

Yesterday, I got the courage to do some re-designing with our blog header. The old one is boring with just text in it so I played a little bit of Illustrator, did some edits on the ready made eps files I bought from depositphotos and here you go, a brand new header. I hope you like it! I also made a blog button that you can see on the right side bar but I am having problems on how to add a text box for the code. I hope somebody can help me with this (would you? please!). The second batch of photos is Little G doing some play dough activity during our Kindergarten Home Study class. That was 2 weeks ago that our lesson was about the lowercase "t". He's having a great time and I'm happy that he expressed initiative on starting our homeschooling in the mornings. The third photo is a screenshot I took a few hours ago when my family in Philippines and I are communicating through Skype. I'm so glad my kids still remember them. I miss them so much! My Bro said he is praying that he'll get absorbed in the Tertiary hospital after he's been working there as a nurse trainee for 1 year contract under the Philippine DOH program for Post Graduate Nurses. My Sis is studying hard in her 4th year in Nursing college. She wants to be successful and graduate in 2014, Godwilling. My Mama is having troubles in her Quarry business. And my Papa's cell phone got stolen. It was a gift from my brother and me. I remember it was a touch screen phone and Papa enjoyed using Wifi in it. So much for all these news huh? I just can't help myself cry secretly (or not anymore), and leave it all up to God hands. And lastly, about me, I'm giving my best to keep things organized in our daily routine. It's hard now that we're beginning Homeschooling. Overall, I am still hopeful that things will get better (crossing fingers and toes).

Update: I finally got the grab box for the badge working! Let me know guys if you want to exchange badges.
