I had a busy last night shift in the Operating Room a few days ago. My co-RN HEALS trainees and I felt so hungry after the two long operations that last day we're assigned there. We all decided to go to our favorite 24 hours restaurant which is a few blocks away from the
hospital. I like our simple menu, a combination of dried fish and bacon.
We really had a great time eating together. The
dried fish was crispy (small "Danggit"). And the bacon was marinated and cooked just the right crispiness. After the breakfast, I went
home very sleepy and tired. I thank God before I sleep because I had a full stomach during my breakfast.
My papa's favorite food is the dried squid. A pack of these in the store is sold around P500 to P800 pesos. It's expensive as it's a delicacy. A friend gave this to me and I gave it to my Papa as he seldom receive gifts from me. We cook it during dinner and my Mama talked to us that we should eat little at a time as it is not a healthy food to eat. It is only good as an appetizer. We love to eat it with lots of hot rice.
Last week, I got invited to a birthday party from one of my dearest
college friends. It was a simple party and I'm so happy that my college
classmates got reunited. There were many delicious food cooked in the party and I enjoyed eating the Spaghetti and Steamed Prawns. My friend noticed that this is the only food that I'm eating. I told him that it's ok because I already got some
carbs and protein in this meal. He's glad that I complimented his dishes. I really like dry Spaghetti & sauce. I also like prawns even though they are steamed with soy sauce only. It's been a while I haven't eaten this kind of food. I made sure to thank my friend after my party and he hopes to get together with me again.
One Wednesday afternoon, a friend of mine visited the hospital and brought these Malunggay rice cakes in our ward. I am so happy that she brought this healthy snack. Did you know that Malunggay is rich in iron? It's also known as Moringa Olifera in English and many Filipino loves to eat this vegetable because of it's rich nutrient content. I remember my sister shared her photo in Facebook that she made puto cheese too. If only malunggay would grow in their place, she could've mixed Malunggay in her puto cheese and serve it to her family in US. Anyhow, I wish I will also know how to make this in our steamer as this is a big hit for a business while working in the ward. Rice cakes are also nice to eat with hot chocolate on the side in the afternoons. Yum!
My father is having a new hobby. This is boring for me but to him it's fun. He wants to learn to cultivate worms to use as fertilizers. This has been a trend to our agriculture lately. I suppose because it is a natural fertilizer and no harmful side effects. He placed ice on the styrofoam box that has mixed soil and cow's manure. He feeds them with a particular leaf. I bet you're bored reading my post huh? I know, this is really a tough area of expertise because these particular variety of worms are sensitive to their environment. I hope Papa will be successful on this. How about you, have you heard of someone cultivating worms in your area? If so, would you share us ideas?
My father is so grateful to my sister in the US to buy this for him. Of course, we got to use it ourselves and it takes BP vital signs accurately. My father has hypertension and he got it inherited from his side of the family. When I get to visit my Grandparents in Negros Oriental, he let me take this so I can take their BP too. My Grandmother has hypertension and has been taking medicines. When taking medicine while having hypertension, it is important to take your BP. It is not easy to have this kind of illness. They are both on the diet of low salt and low fat right now and they have to eat more veggies than oily stuff.
I enjoyed playing this wooden puzzle that my eldest sister gave me when she came to visit us last January. It is so cute and it has a map of
the USA in it. She said I should begin memorizing them and read about the US for future opportunities. It makes me feel like I'm a kid again. I felt daydreaming of working as a nurse in US someday. Oh well, there's nothing wrong about dreaming right? I thank my sister for thinking of me and for us, her family in Philippines.
