Used Tires as My Vegetable Garden

A friend of mine gave me used tires supposedly to be used as fish pen. Our house is near a river and my husband thought of placing the used tires underwater so we can have these fish pen. Six months has passed but he was not able to push through this project. During that time it already keeps on raining in our place. I've heard of the news that many people were already sick of the dengue fever. I know that the used tires can be one of the breeding grounds of mosquitoes as these are piled only outside our house. The rainwater have already accumulated inside the tires. The other day, December 12 2010, it came into my mind the idea of using the tires as my little garden. I have remembered what I saw in one of the houses in our neighboring place. They put soil inside the tires in a lying position. They planted different kinds of seasonal vegetables like okra, tomatoes, leafy onions, pechay and the native bell peppers. As of now, I have 30 pieces of available used tires. I have also a big deposit of loam soil at the back of our house. With all these materials needed, I started my vegetable garden with my used tires. Initially, I planted leafy onions and the native bell peppers . After I can have my seedlings of the other types of vegetables, I will continue to use the remaining tires. If this idea will click, I will expand my vegetable garden in the near future and maybe a flower garden specifically planting different kinds of roses.

  3. That's a brilliant idea of turning used tires into a vegetable and flower garden. That way, you can maximize the use of those old tires and beautify your yard as well. You will also be eating the fruit and vegetables of your labor, lol. Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
